About YOUR WINDER

Way back in 1983 I received my first guitar. A nylon string classical. Not to be ungrateful or anything, I hated it. It was everything that I didn't like about making music. I wouldn't discover the beautiful world of classical music and its value until years later. I yearned for the sounds I heard on the radio, my favorite bands... Rush, Led Zeppelin, KISS, The Clash, The Go-Gos, The Knack and so many more. I needed electricity! I needed steel and wires. So after begging my mother and father incessently, I finally received what I wanted. A Hondo II LP type guitar and a used solid state Sears Silvertone bass amp. I made such a racket and little did my parents or myself realize the beast that was unleashed inside of me. It was less about the actual making of music as it was about the making of the sound. They physical act of making the sound. The science of making the sound.

Flash forward to my mid-twenties. I decided to learn the art of building guitars from scratch and moved my new wife to Phoenix, AZ so that I could study at the prestigious Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery. Certificate in hand I set out to change the world of guitar building. I applied to all the biggies (Fender, Gibson, Peavey, etc.) and received a stack of rejections. Determined to cut my teeth in the guitar building world I sent out one more application to Hamer Guitars and ended up getting an offer. A terrible offer, but one nonetheless. So, from Phoenix, I packed up my wife and our meager belongings and began the trek across the country to Chicago(land area) and began a new life working for a world class boutique builder. I wish the story could have just ended there and I spent the rest of my waking days building those fantastic instruments, but it wasn't meant to be. Four years later I was headed back to Texas with lots of experience and a little heartache. My 30s and 40s were then spent either running my own instrument repair shop or working as a repair guy in established music stores. that's the main part of the saga....

2020, the pandemic hits and now I need to do something other than my day job. I invest in 2 professional winders and all the tools needed, wire, parts, a phone line, a domain name and web server space. I started winding pickups. Many pickups. All for me. I was learning, researching and gaining knowledge in every way possible. What you see on this website is a culmination of many hours of dedication and thirst for knowledge. I don't charge as much as all those boutique guys. I'm not that precious about it. You hear them sing "It cost that much because it takes me f**king hours..." It takes me hours, too, but I feel that I need to get your trust before I start trying to charge what the other boutique guys do (Which I never will.)

Now, aside from my day job, I pour my love of electric music into my product. 40 years of endeavor and experience give me the confidence to offer you a pickup that will make you want to keep listening and playing. The saga continues. Stay tuned.
